About Us and Local History
The Old Dairy pods are run by Pauline and Paul, who have lived at The Old Dairy for over 30 years, alongside their two adult children and many animals over the years. They currently share the property with three dogs, two horses and the local wildlife including resident foxes, rabbits and an array of wild bird species.
History
The old Dairy was a former Dairy farm, some of which have been retained in its original form. The area was part of Yapton Manor estate which was home to the Earl of Arundel in the 16 century. It was granted to John Edmunds of Balifscourt in 1568 and remained in the family until Yapton Place was demolished and sold in approximately 200 lots at an auction in 1836. The only remaining part of the estate is the original Dove cote which is listed and forms an integral part of the area surrounding the pods.
The majority of the trees which encompass the natural pond ( alas no water) were planted by the current owners and the Pods are named after the respective trees; the Willow, Apple and Filbert nut tree.
